RecycleMania is Back!

Johns Hopkins is once again competing in the 10 week competition against colleges and universities across the country to see who can recycle the most and reduce total waste. Last year JHU took first place in three RecycleMania categories against participating Maryland schools. This year we want to beat our friends at the Ivy League Plus schools! Recycling is incredibly easy. It reduces the amount of natural resources and energy we consume which is better for the environment and our health. It can generate income for JHU. Simply put it is just the smart thing to do!

Do you part to help us increase our recycling rate and reduce our total waste by recycling all of your cans, bottles, paper and cardboard in the many designated bins on campus. Check back here for the results each week!

For more information about what you can recycle check out the Guide to Recycling at Homewood. If you are not on the Homewood campus check out the Guide to Recycling Across Hopkins

Begun as a challenge between two Ohio universities in 2001, RecycleMania has grown dramatically each year, reaching 400 schools in 2008. 2009 promises to see another large increase in participation.RecycleMania is a project of NRC’s College and University Recycling Council (CURC) and is administered by NRC staff. Sponsorship and technical support is provided by The Coca-Cola Company and the US EPA's WasteWise program

Bags in the recycling bins should be clear. If you see a black bag in a recycling bin, please report it to JHU Recycling
