RecycleMania is BACK! Starting January 18 and running ten weeks, colleges and universities across the country will compete in multiple categories measuring everything from how much paper they recycle to how little per capita waste they generate. Schools measure and report their trash and recycling weights each week using an online form. These numbers are in turn combined to show a ranking of all schools within a category. Over the course of the ten weeks recycling coordinators rally their students and employees to beat rival colleges in the constantly shifting results. While competition is the framework, the ultimate goal is to raise awareness of campus recycling programs and spur students to reduce overall waste generation. Results will be posted weekly so you can keep track of our progress.

Begun as a challenge between two Ohio universities in 2001, RecycleMania has grown dramatically each year, reaching 400 schools in 2008. 2009 promises to see another large increase in participation.

RecycleMania is a project of NRC’s College and University Recycling Council (CURC) and is administered by NRC staff. Sponsorship and technical support is provided by The Coca-Cola Company and the US EPA's WasteWise program
