Recyclemania 2008 Update!

RecycleMania 2008 collects 58.6 million pounds

The National Recycling Coalition (Washington) recently announced the winners of the organization’s 10-week RecycleMania 2008 challenge, which involved U.S. colleges and universities competing to reduce and recycle the most waste from their campuses.

Kalamazoo College (Kalamazoo, Michigan) took the top Whole Campus Per Capita Classic prize with 75.22 pounds of recyclables collected per person on campus. Meanwhile, Rutgers University (New Brunswick and Newark, New Jersey) collected the most overall targeted material — paper, old corrugated cardboard, bottles and cans, and food scraps — bringing in 2,782,793 pounds for the Partial Campus Gorilla prize.
