MATERIALS ACCEPTEDOn the Homewood campus, the JHU Recycling Program currently accepts the following materials for recycling, thereby preventing these materials from entering the municipal solid waste stream:

  • Mixed paper (details)
  • Cardboard (details)
  • Mixed aluminum, glass and plastic #1-7
  • Computers and other electronics
  • Cell phones (Please wait until you have collected several to request a pick up)
  • Laser toner and Inkjet cartridges (Please wait until you have collected several to request a pick up)
  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs can be recycled through the Electric Shop by calling 6-8263. Please wait until you have collected several before requesting a pick up and store them safely so they will not break.
  • Batteries (all types including phone, camera, alkaline, regular, rechargeable,
    and computer). Batteries can be dropped off to the Recycling Office located in Wyman 3.

Coated Paper (paper clips, staples & post-it notes in paper permitted)

-  Hardback Books
-  Manila folders
-  Hanging file folders

-  Plastic Wrapped Paper
-  Pizza Boxes
-  Paper Cups & Paper Plates

Staples, clips, tape, window envelopes are OK

 

Cardboard

Includes:
Excludes:
-  Corrugated Cardboard
-  Flat Single-layer Paperboard
-  Brown Paper Bags

-  Waxed Cardboard
-  Cardboard w/ Plastic Wrapping
-  Plastic Liners

Staples, tape, and Labels are OK

Please remove trash, styrofoam or foam peanuts from inside cardboard
